26 EFA women sign in support of Kurdish women in Syria

The European Free Alliance supports the democratic movement of the Kurdish women in Syria. This week, 26 prominent EFA women political figures expressed their solidarity by signing an open letter to the UN and the European institutions, endorsing the women’s associations’ claims in Rojava and Syria. The letter emphasizes the necessity of women’s participation in Syria’s reconstruction process following the fall of Assad’s regime. It also calls for the international recognition of the Democratic Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria (DAANES). The DAANES is a self-governing society based on women’s liberation, ecology and, grassroots democracy, built in 2012 in the North and East of Syria by the Kurdish population.

After more than a decade of civil war, the Syrian society sees now an opportunity for a democratic reconstruction. From EFA, we believe that this democracy must be built from the people, including everyone in the society. Equal rights and equal participation for women must be guaranteed in decision-making. Syrian women are united and organized to shape the democratic process of the country. We endorse the 13 goals presented by the Syrian Women’s Council to build a democratic and fair society.
