EFA reelects Lorena López de Lacalle as President
Oriol Cases (ERC) replaces Jordi Solé as Secretary General, while Anke Spoorendonk (SSW) continues as Treasurer
Yesterday, the General Assembly of the European Free Alliance (EFA) renewed the party’s leadership. The party’s main body reaffirmed its trust in a Bureau led by Eusko Alkartasuna, Esquerra Republicana, and the Südschleswigsche Wählerverband. As a result, Lorena López de Lacalle (EA, Basque Country), who has led the party for the past six years, will remain EFA President for another three-year term. Anke Spoorendonk (SSW, Danish minority in Germany) will also continue in her role as Treasurer. Meanwhile, there has been a change in Esquerra Republicana’s representation in the position of Secretary General: Jordi Solé has been succeeded by Oriol Casas (Catalan Countries).
The new Bureau is composed of 13 members parties geographically and gender balanced. Continuing on their role as EFA Vice-Presidents, there are Jill Evan (Plaid Cymru, Wales), Wouter Patho (N-VA, Flanders), Frank de Boer (FNP, Frisland), Livia Ceccaldi-Volpei (Femu à Corsica), Zsolt Szilágyi (Erdelyi Magyar Neppart, Transylvania), Roberto Visentin (Patto per l’Autonomia, Friuli), and Lorena López Sánchez (Nueva Canarias, Canary Islands). Ålands Framtid will also continue being part of the Direction of EFA, but Peggy Eriksson will be replaced by Maiken Poulsen Englund. Two new parties are joining the Bureau this time: Union Démocratique Bretonne (UDB) that will be represented by former MEP Lydie Massard, and the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace (Greece), represented by Kerem Aptourachim Oglou.
“This Bureau reflects true geographic, linguistic and gender diversity. It represents the Europe that we want to work for, a Europe for all. We are committed to working for all EFA parties and unrepresented peoples”, said EFA President Lorena López de Lacalle during the General Assembly.
