No to differentiated autonomy – Event in Nuoro, Sardinia

On Friday the 3rd of March in Nuoro, Sardinia a public meeting was held in opposition to differentiated autonomy in the Italian state. The meeting organised by RossoMori joined members of different organisations who believe in the self-government of territories.

On the agenda were helpful interventions including one on energy self-governance by Eng. Fernando Codonesu, and an expression of worry that the present majority party in the Italian government does not have the required strength to stop the initiatives by Salvini’s Lega party to impose so-called ‘differentiated autonomy’ in Italian territories which would lead to a more presidential system of government in rather than the reality of the state, which is a collection of autonomous territories working together.

There representing EFA and our partners in the Italian state Autonomie e Ambiente was Silvia “Lidia” Fancello who outlined EFA’s core aims as the party for self-determination, democracy, and equality. In her contribution to the event, she highlighted EFA’s work in with AeA to coordinate parties in territories across the Italian state; all committed to broader self-government aiming to achieve the ultimate goal of the Italian State becoming a Republic of Autonomies. A far cry from Salvini’s presidential republic model idea which would impose this so-called ‘differentiated autonomy’ across Italy, a proposal described by Lidia as impractical and wrong.

“It is positive that we in this country continue to fight seriously for those autonomies betrayed by the state, starting with ours in Sardinia. Fighting for autonomy not through useless means and rhetoric but by engaging in civil meetings and debate with those who aspire to implement the right to self-determination.”
