European Free Alliance Group in the European Parliament

Every 5 years EU citizens elect their Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), who, once elected, work in political groups in the Parliament. EFA formed a common group in the European Parliament with the Green Parties in 1999. Most EFA MEPs sit in the EFA Group, but some choose another group (see Members of European Parliament). The EFA Group in the European Parliament works for self-determination for nations and regions, for decentralisation of decision making, for the protection of human rights, for a strong, sustainable economy and international solidarity.

Coppieters Foundation

Coppieters Foundation is EFA’s European political foundation recognized by the European Parliament since 2007. With 16 members across Europe, it contributes to European public policy debates from a diversity perspective. Guided by the values of democracy, social justice and sustainability, it develops new ideas on the management of cultural diversity and promotes the right to self-determination. It is named after the first elected EFA MEP Maurits Coppieters, in 1979.

European Free Alliance Youth

The European Free Alliance Youth (EFAy) is the youth wing of EFA. EFAy’s members belong to political organizations that safeguard and promote the cultural, linguistic and national diversity of Europe in a progressive way. Its political principles are the right for self-determination, the recognition of minorities and ethnic groups, the protection of linguistic diversity inside the European Union, the preservation of the intercultural identity of Europe. EFAy also promotes an inclusive approach when it comes to migration, decentralization and subsidiarity, and condemns any type of discrimination based on sex, gender or birthplace.
